        Our client is a Global Property Development firm who are world renown for the development of iconic mega projects worldwide. Their key projects are international hotels and resorts and well as in country city and land developments across Asia, Africa and Qatar. Our client now seeks to recruit a General Counsel – Procurement to provide timely, accurate and value-enhancing legal advice on all matters related to Development, Project Delivery and Procurement activities across the firm.

        Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and managing 1 staff member, this role is responsible for the following:

        • Provide professional legal advice, clarifications and legal opinions to the firm on relevant aspects concerning construction projects.
        • Adopting a proactive approach to ensure that all legal provisions are adhered to and that the firm is protected from adverse legal consequences.
        • Review the firm’s position to local and international laws and regulations governing development, project delivery and procurement activities.
        • Monitor changes and advise senior management on implications to ensure full compliance of all activities to laws and regulations.
        • Draft and negotiate development, project delivery and procurement related contracts, including all international standard forms.
        • Draft and negotiate bespoke contracts including traditional, design and build main contracts, appointments, letters of intent, performance bonds and guarantees and collateral warranties.
        • Supervise and participate in the preparation, checking and review of contracts between the firm’s external parties to ensure correctness and accuracy.
        • Manage the outsourcing of legal works for development, project delivery and procurement within agreed guidelines to ensure accurate, timely and effective completion of such work.
        • Inform all concerned parties about essential and statutory provisions and procedures related to the execution of development, project delivery and procurement activities to ensure they are implemented in line with required standards.
        • Monitor, guide and provide technical advice to external lawyers on approaches to cases of dispute to remain abreast with the latest status of legal matters for the firm.
        • Define and develop new processes, systems and procedures to improve efficiency in documentation consistent with best practice. The emphasis of such efficiencies is in the development of standard legal documents and templates.
        • Organize and supervise the activities and work of subordinates by setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing and motivating staff, and providing feedback and appraisal in order to maximize subordinate and departmental performance

        The attributes we seek for this role comprise:

        • A Bachelor of Law (LLB) is essential by a recognised University with a Master’s of Law (LLM) being highly regarded.
        • A minimum of 12+ years of legal experience with 5 years in a senior role with a specialty in real estate development, project delivery and procurement being highly desirable.
        • Candidate must possess previous experience in the provision of legal advisory within the property and real estate sector.
        • The strong negotiator we seek with have superior persuasion and communication skills and be a strong prioritiser.
        • Experience in expatriate environment is essential.
