Michael E. DeBakey High School Physical Education and Health Teacher Job Description:

• Establishes and maintains standards of students’ behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas
• Demonstrate knowledge of resources’. Selects and requisitions, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. / Maintains control of storage/ Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment to insure the over-all safety
• Design coherent instruction. / Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports and individual sports
• Obtain advance approval of the assistant principal for all activities and expenditures
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified administrative regulations and procedures of DeBakey High School
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps accurate attendance and grade records
• Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, and field trips
• Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught
• Communicates with parents, team leaders, and school counselors on student progress
• Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working day
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
• Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instructions based on students’ individual needs and measure it against the school learning outcomes
• Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
• Work with other faculty members to determine instructional goals, objectives and strategies
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
• Plan and monitor work flow of instructional assistants and volunteers as appropriate

• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
• Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth
• Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
• Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
